A lost jewel of 1970s Japanese psychedelia. Recorded by high school friends Minoru Sasaki and Masanori Nishigaito who spent their days rehearsing in a decrepit abandoned hospital, supported by their friends’ band Momonga. Self-released in 1974 in only 100 copies on the highly collectible Mountain Fuji Record imprint, most surviving copies have surfaced without jackets, further adding to the record’s mystique. For fans of private press psych and Japanese folk rock acts like Tokedashita Garasubako and Itsutsu no Akai Fusen.
Reissued for the very first time, featuring the rare original cover, a replica of the original 8-page booklet, and new liner notes from the band. Audio restoration and mastering by 5-time Grammy Award-winner Michael Graves.
We were still in high school and didn’t have the kind of money needed to rent a studio, so we did most of our rehearsing in an abandoned building that belonged to an acquaintance, a decrepit former hospital that stood on a large plot of land. There were still surgical tools, beds, and medical equipment left lying around inside the building, so I remember it as having a creepy atmosphere. The photo on the record jacket was taken in the garden of the hospital grounds.
We recorded the LP in the studio of a record company in Ikebukuro. We had to finish recording everything in three hours, so we laid down most of the tracks in the second half in one take each. We regretted not being able to redo those parts, but at the same time, we were laughing at the end, because we all felt that we had accomplished something.
